Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil

Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is extracted from the leaves of the True Cinnamon Tree (Cinnamomum zeylanicum). This is also known as  Cinnamomum vervun. The oil produced is pale yellow to light brown and less reddish than the Cinnamon Bark essential Oil produced from the bark of the same tree. Its constitution also differs because Cinnamon leaf oil comprises of 80% phenols.

Ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Greeks and Chinese highly valued Cinnamon oil for its medicinal properties. It was used as a treatment for a wide variety of illnesses and conditions. . Cinnamon Leaf essential oil has antibacterial and antimicrobial qualities. It is energising and is credited with reducing stress and helping to support healthy brain function and focus.

Uses of Cinnamon Leaf Oil:

For the Hair:

• As a conditioner: mix a few drops with olive oil,
• To reduce hair loss and treat dandruff it may be added to shampoo or used as a conditioner mixed with olive oil,
• Cinnamon oil can be used to deter nits when added to hair care products or treatments.

For the Skin:

• For a soothing moisturiser, promoting healthy skin, mix a few drops of Cinnamon Leaf oil into coconut oil,
• For a fragrant, invigorating and conditioning massage oil, mix a few drops into sweet almond oil or any other favourite carrier oil.

Healthy use of Cinnamon Leaf Oil

Cinnamon Leaf essential oil can be a mild skin irritant, so it should always be diluted with a carrier oil when being used directly on the skin, avoiding sensitive areas. Users should avoid contact with the eyes and keep the oil out of the reach of children.

It should not be ingested and is not suitable for use by pregnant women or nursing mothers.

Cinnamon Leaf essential oil could react with Diabetic medicines, and anticolagulants, so users of these medications should check with their doctor before using cinnamon oil.
