Basil Essential Oil

Basil Essential Oil is distilled from the flowers and leaves of the Ocimum basilicum plant. Differences in the region in which the plant is grown, its growing conditions and cultivar alter the constitutionof the plant and the oil distilled from it. This means there are several different types of Basil essential oil with different chemotypes.. Ocimum basilicum ct. Methyl Chavicol contains Methyl Chavicol, also known as Estragole at high concentration. Estragole itself is not toxic to humans but can convert into a form that is hepatoxic. Although safe in smaller amounts, some studies have looked at whether it could be carcinogenic in prolonged and/or high dose use. For these reasons, we recommend Sweet Basil if the product is to be used directly on the skin or over long periods.

Basil (Methyl Chavicol) has been traditionally used to promote mental clarity, and for remedies for nervous conditions such as anxiety and stress. Asthma, coughs and colds and other respiritory problems are often targeted with Basil oil. Digestive tract issues have been treated with basil since Roman times, especially when related to stress reactions. It is also valued as a relaxant for muscular tension.

Basil essential oil should not be used when pregnant . It may irritate sensitive skin. Not for use n concentrations greater than 2% or for prolonged periods.
